Do Yorkies have growth spurts?

My Sammie is about 5 months now and for the last 2 weeks she can't seem to get enough food. We feed her 4 times a day but the recomended 3/4 cup total daily won't cut it. She won't eat dry kibble so she is on Ceaser's wet. (she's a bit fussy on her food) She's eating 3- 3oz packs of Ceaser's, a dingo chicken denta stick, and about 10 little treats (liver, for training) daily. She would eat more if we let her. She's not fat at all, she is just a bit over 4 pounds, and very healthy.

Any Yorkie owners/breeders out there experience the same kid of thing?

I suppose a growth spurt is not unthinkable, but I don't know for sure.

When I got my yorkie he was about 6 months old and he never ate like that. It could have been because he had his spurt before I got him or maybe it was because I just didn't let him. He had two meals a day only - dry Eukanuba. That's still all I feed him and he seems happy with that. He's about three years old now and weighs about 4 pounds. He's not too skinny and not too fat - just right!

But he will eat anything that falls on the floor or that someone leaves within his reach (when no one is looking). I don't think it's because he's hungry, I think it's because he's a dog.

If she starts getting fat, I would suggest cutting back a little bit on her wet food, cutting her treats in half so they are half the size, giving her half a dental stick, or take other measures along those lines.

If you want to switch her to dry, start mixing it in with the wet little by little. The first few days you mix it in a dry to wet ratio of 1:3. Then half and half. Then 3:1. Then all dry. If she gets hungry enough she will eat the dry. Dogs aren't going to starve themselves because they think you'll feel bad and give in. They just know what happens when they sit at the bowl of dry food and don't eat it. It gets taken away and replaced with wet food.Do Yorkies have growth spurts?
All puppies need more food as they are growing, at 5 months your pup still have some growing to do.

I would recommend, however, you find a way to work kibble into her diet, kibble keeps their teeth strong, and helps keep them clean. Any vet will recommend you feed kibble.Do Yorkies have growth spurts?
Our yorkie David is about 3 months, and he is the same exact way. He can never eat enough, and goes on a search for more food after we feed him. I think it has to do with them running and playing so much. When you exercise more, you eat more, so this may be the case, I don't know.
