Ok so I have two hermit crabs about the same size ones name is Ceaser the other one is named Scootter. So i had Ceaser for exaclty 2 weeks and Scootter for a little less than a week. So I came home today and I went to check on them they have everyting that a hermit crab would need (BTW my friends and I have "Hermit Crab playdates outside) so i came home and found a leg without a body!!!!! I looked at Scootter nope he was fine but Ceaser seemed ok but he was missing a leg he was in a corner right next to his leg. Will he be ok? I actual handle him a lot but not roughly im going to stop doing that! Will he be ok is he stressed? is he going to die? and Scootter and Ceaser seem to get along....... but i he molting or dying whats happening should i put him in a ISO tank? Just please help me!What should I do about my Hermit Crab?
"Hermit crabs sometimes lose their legs (including their claws), which can be grown back on subsequent molts. However, losing legs is often related to stress from improper living conditions (temperatures, humidity, cleanliness), so if you have a hermit crab losing legs, you should rule out any problems in their environment. Aggression from other crabs, mite infestation, wounds, or illness are other causes. While losing a limb is not death sentence for a crab, it is usually an indication of some sort of problem that needs attention immediately!"
are you sure they have everything they need ??? do they have a form of calcium ???
you have not had them very long and sometimes the stress of them being shipped to the store and then brought home is enough to stress them out and lose a limb ... handling them too much in the first week is not suggested so they have some time to destress and get used to their environment ... he should be okay and just regrow the limb ... you can just leave him alone ... if you see the other crab pestering him, you could isolate for a bit ... it may take several molts for the leg to regenerate and it may never be exactly the same ...What should I do about my Hermit Crab?
He should just be molting. I had hermit crabs that did that before also. What should I do about my Hermit Crab?
hes fine he just lost a leg and it should mean hesmoltingWhat should I do about my Hermit Crab?
as long as he doesn't lose all of his outer skin it means he's not molting. But just in case he's getting ready to at any time you should have him in a tank that has about 2 to 3 inches of sand in it so that when he molts he can go under the sane. They go into the sand like they would if they were at the beach. I shouldn't die just don't let the other one pick on him. just keep a watch on him. and if he starts to molt he will kinda look like a raw shrimp and if you have sand he will just go under there. Hope this helps:):)
