I think something is wrong with my 2 fish?!?

i have a goldfish, and his name is cat, and i also have a catfish whos name is ceaser, ceaser seems sick, cause all he does everyday is go in the corner or go in the little house, he never does anything else. but cat all he does is eat, and move all over the place, and he used to be tiny, but now hes GIGANTIC! i got him from the fair about 6 monthes ago, but im nervouse he just gets larger, and larger. what should i do???I think something is wrong with my 2 fish?!?
It sounds like it's probably time to give ceaser (caesar?) up. Unfortunately there are many breeds of catfish that grow massive which are sold or given to unsuspecting people all the time - some could grow to several feet! If he's grown this big this fast, there's no doubt he's a big one and you should find a more suitable home for him soon, or see if a store will take him.

He might be inactive because the tank is getting a little small for him, or if he's a tropical breed the water might be a little chilly, which makes fish more unactive. Also, catfish tend to be nocturnal and with many species it's normal for them to stay in hiding during the day (though I've found most types will be active during the day too if the tank is set up properly and they're used to their environment). And last, most catfish do tend to be schoolers and will be more active and behave more naturally in a group of their own kind.I think something is wrong with my 2 fish?!?
The goldfish needs a very large tank. Not sure what type of catfish you have but some of those need large tanks also. I suggest that you get at least a 20 gallon tank (30 would be ideal). Goldfish release a lot of waste which will cause high levels of ammonia. If you don't have a test kit then take a sample of the water to your aquarium shop. They will most likely test it free of charge. If Ammonia levels are anything higher than 0 then you need to change 30% of the water ASAP. Do this everyday until you get those levels down.

Also, get them into a larger tank before they both die. I can not stress this enough.
Ditto to Sir Ghapy here. In addition to that, what exactly is the tank size? I think since you have a goldfish and a catfish, that might be quite an issue alone as goldfish are cold water fish, the temps, as he said could well be a big factor here. One way, I use, to tell if you have a large growing catfish or not, is looking at the whiskers. If they have extremely large protruding whiskers, that's a good sign you have a catfish that will end up to be several feet long. It's not a perfect law, but works more times then not.

Also as Ghapy said, many catfish are just noctournal so you may well not see them out and active and eating. When you say sick is it based on that only? Or do you see body problems or anything like that? What kind of tank and filtration are you running? Unless you see physical signs of distress I wouldn't worry for now, but you will want to know just what catfish you have. Good chance here this could be a tank busting catfish as there are many out there.I think something is wrong with my 2 fish?!?
The catfish may not be active during the day because they are nocturnal. I have several catfish and during the day they just lay around but early in the morning and late at night they are very active. Therefore, I personally don鈥檛 think anything is wrong with your catfish. As far as the goldfish goes, I have no idea!
KI think something is wrong with my 2 fish?!?
what type of catfish is it? is it a coldwater species?

have you got a filter?

goldfish can get up to a foot long u know, test the water there may be something wrong.
it's the type of goldfish you have go to pet store and trade it off for a smaller one or get a bigger tank and cat fish sit alot and love the dark they feed more in the nite
I don't know much about catfish, so no luck there, but I did read somewhere that goldfish grow to a good size for their containers.Like say you had a goldfish in a 50 gallon tank and a goldfish in a 1 gallon bowl, the one in the 50 gallon tank would get like a lot bigger than the goldfish in the bowl.

I don't know if this is true, but I hope it helps!
Catfish are usally a botttom deweller. This means they spend much of their time at the bottom of the tank. They are noctournal so your catfish seems ok . Your goldfish might have a digestive problem or is over stressed. Check with your local vet
i don't suppose you know the size of your tank and the kind of catfish that caeser is do you?
take them to a vet as fast as you can if you don't know if they are sick or not i took my fish to the vet and he was gonna die if i didn't plz go to the vet for your fishes sake.
well first of all i would never put a catfish in a tank with a goldfish. In fact i wouldn't put a goldfish in a tank with anything except as food or of course another goldfish. they give off a high level of ammonia in the water. Secondly catfish r scavengers or nocturnal as another person pointed out. The catfish probably comes out at night to feed. a real catfish in a lake or creek will dig a hole in the mud, find a log or somewhere to hide for hours at a time in a natural environment. goldfish can grow to be quit big so either replace him when he gets to big for the tank or get him a bigger tank. Perhaps you can consider an outside goldfish pond where i think the catfish might be a little more into the environment as well.
eat them. or take them to a vet. your choice
