Any dog can get along with a cat, but you need to steer clear of some of the breeds which have higher energey and prey drive, such as terriers. Check out your local shelter for dogs there, if you can, introduce the dog and cat before you take the dog home :)

Any dog can be good around cats if socialised from a puppy. We have three cats, a Dobermann and a Border Terrier. Both dogs will happily chase and possibly kill strange cats but the Dobe in particular will let the cats sleep in her bed, while the BT likes to play with the cats (and their cat toys). GSDs are good with cats also - my wife and I have both owned GSDs and cats at the same time with no problems. By the way, no such thing as a miniature GSD - so don't be ripped off by that 'designer dog' way of thinking
the dog they play on the Ceaser dog food commercial is a West Highland White Terrier (they dont get along well other animals regardless).

Labs do well with other pets.

No breed is cheap for a good quality purebred dog from a breeder prices will start at $700ish on up.

I highly recommend petfinder.com, you can see dogs in a shelter near you, what breed or breeds they think it is, if the dog does well with other dogs, cats, and kids.

Perhaps a border collie or a collie.Dog breeds that are good around cats?
I've had (still do) many breeds of dogs with my cats. It's all about how they are trained.

I have

Great Dane

Labrador

Cocker Spaniel

Yorkies

I did have an AmStaff Terrier as well (rescue), a little more tricky, wouldn't advise the breed with cats around as they need a FIRM hand to learn (they do tend to go after), but overall, even she did fine :)
ANY dog can get along with cats if tought properly.

i have a 100 lb rhodesian ridge back / mastiff mix (ridgebacks were originally bred to hunt lions) that lives in my house with 3 cats. also in my house are a malamute/wolf mix, a pit bull mix and

plus 2 smaller dogs. they are taught NOT to bother the cats. and of course all the cats have all their claws just in case.Dog breeds that are good around cats?
Corgi's are good around cats. So is my basset hound. Labrador's and Golden Retriever's are also good choices as well.

Good luck.
any dog can be good around cats with proper training.

if you get a puppy, guaranteed it will mess with your cat all day long no matter what kind. you just have to teach them early.
A YORKIE
All dogs are naturally prey driven to some degree - cat aggressive. Small dogs are no exception, I have 6 dachsies at the moment (I foster and have 5 of my own) - the 2 smalllest girls, 8 lb. and 9 lb. longhair who look like adorable little lap dogs - are the most cat aggressive of the group. The only one who really isn't is my 20 lb. standard who grew up with a kitten.

The key here is individual dog --- NOT breed or size of dog, although hunting dogs and dogs bred to fight other dogs (pits) are more prey driven than others.

Your best bet would be to go to your local shelters and ask if they have a dog that grew up around cats and co-exists with them.

A puppy raised with a kitten might be o.k. too, but adult cats do not normally tolerate a puppy's rough play - go the shelter route, there are individual dogs proven to get on with cats - there really is no actual breed that is guarantied to.

By the way, the dog on the Cesar food tin is a very cute little terrier - another prey driven dog, pretty much guarantied to want to desqueek your cats.

Size is NOT the issue - prey drive is. My dachshunds have killed possums and they would not hesitate to attack wild pigs - they sure want to if I would let them get out.
