We have just got ourselves a little yorkie, we have left ceasers dog food and mixer out for him but he hasnt touched it all day, we gave him a few turkey slices and he wolfed them down..
Im just wondering what if we cooked him some turkey dinosaurs or a chicken pie, is that ok?
Also what other human food do they like? that can be used as a meal.
Please leave me a comment :) ThanksCan yorkshire terriors eat turkey dinosaurs/chicken pie?
Firstly, Cesar dog food is very low quality food. I suggest you switch him to a better food...chances are he will like it better. He is a little dog so even if you give him a high quality food it really won't be that expensive. I know from experience that terriers do really well on Halo, the kibble is small enough for little dogs to enjoy and you can mix in some of their canned food which will entice him to eat it. Terriers also have skin and stomach issues and Halo is made especially for dogs with these problems.
On to your current issue: By giving him human food an allowing him to reject his dog food you reinforced his behavior and in the future it will be even more difficult to get him to eat dog food. I suggest you not make a habit of this because it is very difficult to give a dog a well balanced diet on human food unless you are experienced in dog nutritionCan yorkshire terriors eat turkey dinosaurs/chicken pie?
You do not feed a dog processed human junk food like that and not a dog food like Little Caesar that is pure crap so no wonder he won't eat it. Get your dog a good quality kibble and feed that and no human food. I feed Orijen, but there are many good brands now a days. If it is a puppy, it should be on puppy food for proper growth. You take a new puppy to the vet right away to make sure it was healthy, so do that.
You can google to find websites that list the best dog foods.
Eww, no - I wont' even eat that crap! ;-) Turkey Dinosaurs are filled with all the leftovers and really aren't that healthy.
I would suggest finding a high quality dry dog food (such as Blue Buffalo) and mixing it with some wet dog food. Or, research raw diets and switch your dog over.
Good luck! Can yorkshire terriors eat turkey dinosaurs/chicken pie?
I don't know what turkey dinosaurs are, but I do know that you don't want to give Yorkies a lot of human food, especially processed food. It has too much salt and other things that are unhealthy for a dog to eat. Plus human food is too high in calories for a small dog.
The way I got my Yorkie to eat his kibble was to hand feed him. I only did it occasionally when I first got him. Now he eats his kibble every day because he is used to it. Sometimes he might get a bite of human food, but it is not his main diet.
If you give in to him on the human food all the time, he won't ever eat dog food. I'm not sure, but I don't think a dog ever starved himself to death. Picky eating is one of the ways our dogs use to train us to give them what they want.
Get rid of the Ceasar's crap and get a good quality dog kibble for small dogs. Stop feeding unhealthy people food (I wouldn't feed the dinosarus to a child let alone a dog) . Turkey slices are full of salt and preservatives. If you don't have anything right now then give him chicken and rice until you get the kibble. Can yorkshire terriors eat turkey dinosaurs/chicken pie?
With my little dogs I found a premium small dog dry food. It was all I offer. If he won't eat it ask your vet for a high calorie treat, little dogs can get hypoglycemic quickly. People food is too rich for yorkies little tummy. Giving him people food, he will quickly train you to give him what he wants. You are the Master of the house not your dog. Little dogs learn to be manipulative pick a dog food and stick with it. He will not starve, but if a young puppy call your vet to see how long he can go without eating, before you panic. Good luck your puppy is luck to have you.
hmm, I have a Rottweiler and he eats just about anything. but here came across a page about

sorry but I have bad english, I just started learning it =)
they have sensitive stomachs. i'd keep the on their regular dog food
Research raw diets. They also make fresh meals that are made just for dogs - totally safe for them. They come in a freezer, usually at a specialty pet food store.
1.) Wet dog food is not a good thing to feed a dog, at least not exclusively. Dogs need something to chew daily, especially if on a wet diet or you have an exponentially higher risk of your dog losing all of his teeth by the time he's 5. Furthermore Cesar dog food is crap. As others have already suggested you should try to find a high quality dry kibble for small dogs. The general rule is that if you can buy it at Wal Mart or the grocery store it's probably crap. Avoid corn, wheat, and soy as they are common allergens and dogs can't digest corn. Corn is a cheap filler that may as well be replaced with sawdust because the nutrition in it is completely unavailable to the dog. The first two listed ingredients should be meat and/or meat meal from identified animals. If budget is a concern try to just keep corn, wheat, and soy out of the first 4-5 ingredients, as the first 5 ingredients make up at least 75% of the weight of the bag.
2.) Turkey slices and other highly processed human foods have way too much sodium in them. They are not safe to feed your dog.
