I have a little dog that runs out the front door when it's open.?

Any suggestions?! I have tried some of Ceaser's tools, by not letting her lead our walks, and not letting her be the first one out the door when we head out. This has been going on for a while, and I feel that I have done a lot to prevent my dog from running out. But none of it seems to work. Do ANY of you have ideas that can help me train her not to run out. Please let me know if you do.

ThanksI have a little dog that runs out the front door when it's open.?
You could just get a gate to close off the front door area .I have a little dog that runs out the front door when it's open.?
yep same with my dog i haven't got around yet on training her and fixing the problem so good for u for trying to train her ..i read in jack russell terriers for dummies ( my dogs a jack but im sure this method will work on all dogs) is to teach them to stop immediatley when you say stay ...so try to wire the stay command down really well...i've heard good success stories about having the stay command wired or see if calling your dogs name or whistling to see if it gets your dogs attention and then say stay or on your bed or kennal or something that could work too
take him to the front door over and over and over and use the words "no" "stop" "sit" or whatever is your choice, and each time he attempts to go out the door, stop him "of course with leash attached".

this is not an ten min job, it make take u a few hours until he understands and gets the point. for sure make sure u have treats for him when he does good, and make sure the firm-ness in your voice is there.

pig'ears works best for treats. he will obey, just takes training.I have a little dog that runs out the front door when it's open.?
just hold ur foot in the way, and if she doesnt go out, give her a treat and praise her. if she does, yell at her and make her go back in.
Some people will get mad at this answer but we had tried everything as well, including Cesar's tools and our little dog kept running out. He almost got hit by a car and he scared a neighbor who has Parkinson's disease and almost caused him to fall. We can not set up a gate, it is against our association rules. This is a little adult rescue dog that has special needs and abuse issues so it was not wanted by many people so it was us or dead for this guy. What we finally did, after 4 months, was get a small shock collar with a remote control. It took 3 times and he stopped running away. We got the kind that had two buttons one for a warning and one for a shock with different level settings. We would use the sound first and call him if he did not respond we did the shock and called. Test the shock on yourself first and try to determine where your dog is. We picked a level too low the first time. So even if this sounds mean, if you are careful and direct it can work for you too. The collar was just under $200 at petsmart. We have not had to use the collar again and it has been almost 5 months since the 3 shock training. Good luck.I have a little dog that runs out the front door when it's open.?
get a shock collar and electric fence if u r to poor to buy those, put her in a room while u are leaving my dog does the same shes a 1 year old golden rietriever how ever u spell that( if u do buy the shock collar when ever she does something bad or he shock him
i have a friskie dashound and when i opne the door her nibbels my feet ow..it herts just thinking about it but...most dog hate looud noises get a pringels can(empty)fill it with anything like marballs rice......and shack it when you leave the house..then every time you go to walk out of your house she will back up or walk away

be safe with your dog :D
try making her scared of going out side when she is not alowwed. or dont leave the door open. or, if none of these work, you can do what my mom did, which is kanda mean. when your dog rund out, catch her as soon as possible, yell at her, and hit her a bit, but not to hard. it works, but i dont think you want to do it. you can also take her to training school for help. thanks.
Shock collar. Fastest training. I had to do this to keep my dog from jumping on my 69 year old neighbor. But of course this is a last resort.
The gate's a really good idea because while you're training the pup at least the gate will stop here from dashing out - that is, as long as she small enough not to jump it.

My big dog's been a door-dasher as well. The other night I was carrying out a bunch of stuff to the recycling bins and he slams right past me spilling the entire container all over my deck. Needless to say, I was a little pissed!! I realized that it was my own fault, though, as when I take him places with me I tended to let HIM go out first - which is totally wrong. You need to be the first one out the door to show that you're the "alpha" dog - not them.

What I've found works is that before I open the door I make him sit down further back in the room. Then I slowly open the door, keeping an eye on him. If he starts to move at all I shout "SIT!" and close the door. I only started doing this a couple of weeks ago and he's already gotten to the point where when he sees me heading to the door he sits on his own :-0 So it's definitely starting to work. I think the hardest part is training YOURSELF to not let the dog take control - which definitely takes some getting used to.
I don't think there's much you CAN do.. just make sure you know where she is/ you're holding her when the door is open. Child gates might help (the little plastic gates you use to stop children from going up the stairs).
My dog use to do that. I started to put her collar and then open the door. Now she waits for me to put the collar. Try and see if it works. God Bless!
